Mice in Cars

Mice in Cars began as a quartet in the summer of '07, banging pots and chiming finger cymbals in various seedy dives around Atlanta and Athens. A pummeling sonic attack of brute force, melody and humor both joyous and sinister. R.I.P.

Then What presents MADHOUSE
Performed for the Atlanta Fringe Festival, June 2023

Madhouse is a theatrical puppet show, sensory experience, noise concert, and storytelling experiment drawing from Nellie Bly's reporting on Blackwell's Asylum and modern day personal narrative from people impacted by institutional and carceral systems.

A team of local puppeteers, writers, theatre makers, musicians, comedians, storytellers, artists, builders, and many many community members impacted by institutional and carceral violence have collaborated on this project. This is a world premiere and a workshop performance, by which I mean very experimental and pretty ambitious for a thing we're making because we really want to.

Construct: ATL
Burning Bones Physical Theatre

This butoh-based dance by Frankie Mulinix and Thomas Bell is set to live, on-site guitar by Mykal Alder June, in collaboration with the river, sand, trees, wind, birds, and other wildlife, and was filmed by Jennifer Skura Boutell and Ryan Klee.

Designed to be performed in different locations and adapt to different landscapes, ecological considerations, and histories, our project “Construct” investigates the human urge to control, exploit, and impose rigid permanence on natural systems. We build structures and systems that resist rather than harmonize with organic rhythms. Such static solidity is inherently unstable, requiring frequent interventions to maintain its “unchanging” state. In the absence of constant vigilance and effort, these systems and structures soon fracture and malfunction, then are reclaimed by nature’s perpetual flow.
